“Pray, then in this way: ‘Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed by Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.’” (Matthew 6:9-13)
The final thing that we need to type up for our book is a prayer list. These are prayers that are regular (such as praying for deliverance from temptation that day) and longer term, things that you want to lift up to the Lord each and everyday. Be sure to include on this prayer list your purity and ability to overcome temptation, the protection and salvation of your family and friends, opportunities to share the gospel, our government and world peace, the advancement of the gospel around the world, and your personal requests and goals. Praying through this list daily you will find to be both a challenge and a great reward as you see God accomplishing these things over time.
Here is an example of some of the things you may consider putting on your prayer list:
- Lord, grant that I would be filled with your Holy Spirit today and manifesting the fruit of the Spirit every day: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
- Grant that I would be victorious over all temptation; deliver me from evil, Lord!
- Make me pure in heart and mind, a holy vessel in which You would be please to dwell mightily, abiding joyfully, and tarrying long.
- Please grant that I would be filled with the knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding so that I can walk worthy of You. (Colossians 1:9-10)
- Make me pleasing to You. (2 Corinthians 5:9)
- Please uproot all love of evil from me and all immoral thoughts and cravings. Grant me to hate evil as You hate it and love righteousness. Produce in me all of the critical transformations that I might be Your faithful servant.
- Grant that I would redeem the time today; grant that today I would do something of eternal significance resulting in lasting reward.
- Please give me wisdom for everything I do.
- Fill me with love for You and love for others. Help me to put others before myself and their interests before my own.
- Please grant my family to be protected from the evil one, and let all of them have eternal life and bear fruit for You. [name specific names of family members and pray specifically for them]
- Be with our government and give them wisdom to govern righteously; grant us godly leaders and that we would have peace.
- Raise up laborers for Your harvest, Lord!
Add anything else that is on your heart to pray about. On my list I have ten specific “mountains” that I am asking the Lord to move, things that seem impossible to me that only a miracle of grace can accomplish. Type this up, print it out, and add it to your three ring binder. These prayer requests of course can be added to later, but these are core requests that we should be praying for on a daily basis.
