Overcoming Immorality, Pornography, and Lust – Part LIX – Specific Strategies for Overcoming Immoral Thoughts and Behaviors – Helpful Verses to Keep in Mind (continued)

October 6

“How can a young man keep his way pure?  By keeping it according to Thy word.  With all my heart I have sought Thee; Do not let me wander from Thy commandments.  Thy word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee.”  (Psalm 119:9-11)

Yesterday we gave an example of scriptures that we could put in a table for easy review, and we showed possible ways that we can highlight the text so that the main points of the verses will jump out at us and make it easier to review and remember.  Today, I want to continue in this vein of thinking, but I want to offer additional verses that we should have in our table that don’t necessarily pertain to sin or don’t pertain to sins of immorality per se.  But nonetheless, these scriptures are powerful motivators in our attempts to overcome temptations of fleshly indulgence.  I will continue to put these in table format to give you ideas on how you can highlight certain points that stand out to you.

Reference Helpful Verses to Keep in Mind
Jn 8:31-32 “If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  JESUS said this.  How am I doing abiding in His word?  Am I enjoying His freedom?
Jn 8:34, 36 “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin….If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.”
Ps 16:11 Thou wilt make known to me the path of life; In Thy presence is fullness of joy; In Thy right hand there are pleasures forever.”
Ec 2:25 “For who can eat and who can have enjoyment without Him?”
Pr 11:20 “The perverse in heart an abomination to the Lord, but the blameless in their walk are His delight.”  perversion in heart = abomination to God; blameless in walk = delight to God
Ps 101:2-4 I will WALK within my house in the INTEGRITY of my heart.

I will set NO WORTHLESS THING before my eyes.

I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not fasten its grip on me.

A perverse heart shall depart from me;

I WILL KNOW NO EVIL.”

Ps 97:10 Hate evil, you who love the Lord; Who preserves the souls of His godly ones; He delivers them from the hand of the wicked.”
Heb 12:1-2 “Therefore since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, FIXING OUR EYES ON JESUS, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.’

There are many other verses that we could list here.  The important thing is that you find verses that are meaningful to you, verses that are good reminders to you to keep the Lord always in view and to turn away from all evil.  We will list some additional verse options tomorrow, but please be thinking about which verses are most convicting to you, most effective in turning you from sin to righteousness.
