Overcoming Immorality, Pornography, and Lust – Part LXII – Specific Strategies for Overcoming Immoral Thoughts and Behaviors – Helpful Things to Keep in Mind (continued)

October 9

“The words of wise men are like goads, and masters of these collections are like well-driven nails; they are given by one Shepherd.” (Ecclesiastes 12:11)

Yesterday we started capturing helpful thoughts and exhortations, helpful reminders of how unsatisfying and empty sins of immorality really are, and how great are the consequences.  We continue today listing more examples of statements of truth and exhortation, sayings to remind us to flee immoral behaviors and lusts and turn to Christ for refreshment.

  • “How could I join myself to the enemies of Christ?  How can I associate with those who hate and despise, mock and reject my Beloved?  Even watching what they do from a distance and gazing on their nakedness and shame, is that not joining with them and giving hearty approval to their deeds?”
  • “Immorality brings unbelief and turning away from Christ.  Unbelief brings judgment and condemnation.  Judgment brings death and eternal destruction.”
  • “One adulterous thought, one minute spent indulging the flesh, can rob me of incredible blessings in this life and priceless rewards in the life to come.”
  • “Opening the door a little to sins of immorality is the same as opening the floodgates to destruction; you cannot control it, it will sweep you away.”
  • “Lusting and giving immoral thoughts the smallest place in your mind and heart is like feeding a shark a piece of shrimp with your bare hands.”
  • “You can never undo the damage immorality does to you and your loved ones.  Remember the lasting consequences God gave to David when he sinned: ‘The sword shall never depart from your house.’ (2 Samuel 12:10)  And David was God’s beloved, a man after his own heart!  We have no idea how great the consequences of our immoral failings might be – possibly far worse than we can imagine.”
  • “Adultery is evil; a total nightmare.  How can I fantasize about something so ugly and harmful to me and others?”
  •  “Nothing good and nothing lasting will result from this action.  NOTHING.”
  • “Pain, regret, and shame will come from this.  Nothing else.”
  • “These sins cannot satisfy.  They just enflame the flesh to crave more and more and more.  They are insatiable.”
  • “The fantasies of the flesh are not real.  They are illusions that don’t really happen and can never bring happiness, only pain.”
